Addie grabbed Linny's halter from beside his door and slid it on, clasping the latch at his cheek. She led him to the crossties and hitched him before grabbing his grooming case and setting to work, currying with all of her might until every particle of dust floated away from his spotted coat. She took her time finishing the ritual, ending on a clean note by sliding the finishing rag across his body in a slow caress.
She sighed and gave the POA a pat on the neck before heading to the tack room. She took a moment to remember where Linny's set was located, eyes gliding up and down the filled pegs until she found his basic leather bridle with an eggbutt snaffle. She grabbed it, along with the florescent yellow saddle pad and dark brown dressage saddle that rested below it. Within five minutes, AJ had Linny saddled and outside of the barn, mounting with grace onto the shorter equine. Giving a wave to the groom that was tossing manure, she set off at a walk towards the Coldwater Trails.
The path to the trails was enchanting in itself- it followed along the pastures and property edge, giving a clear view of the grazing herds and thick brush that surrounded the property. Since she had arrived, AJ had barely had time to feed her own horse, much less ride, so a day off was complete bliss. Of course, Linny didn't think so, as he would stop every few feet just to make sure she wanted to go on the trails, but with a swift tap of her heels he fussily settled into a nice, smooth jog. His face fell perpendicular to the flat ground, creating a perfect line from ears to nose. This allowed his steps to be elongated and gentle, like a comforting sway. AJ sat the jog, opting not to post- instead, she relaxed in the saddle, enjoying the familiar feeling of a horse in motion beneath her.
